It includes boreholes, surface water intakes, pipes, canals, control systems, water tanks, dams, reservoirs and water treatment systems. It may include wetland treatment systems for wastewater. For municipal supply, it includes the distribution system. Poorly maintained water infrastructure represents a risk of ‘economic water scarcity’.
